The compass rose has been an important symbol for hundreds of years, mainly to sailors who would get it tattooed as a good luck talisman to help them to make it home safely. I see it not only as that but also representing home, family and the important relationships in your life and always finding your way back to them through your life journey and finding your way through new adventures.
 
The compass rose itself is very detailed and around the sides of the ring the compass points to N, E, S and W.
